What is your opinion on Barack Obama getting rid of the Don’t Ask and Don’t Tell Policy?

by admin on April 23, 2009

Barack Obama believes that if someone is willing to die for their country, then they have the right to disclose their sexual preference.

Sure. Why should it be anyone else’s business whom you like to shag?

ATTENTION: Testicles That Is All April 28, 2009 at 10:53 am

I dunno what the deal is with liberals wanting to flaunt their sexuality. People don’t run around making it known that they’re heterosexual.

Joshua H April 30, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Amen to that. If some guy is willing to die for me, I don’t give a fuck where he sticks his stuff.

Lou May 3, 2009 at 11:00 pm

I suppose, now, all will get the honor of seeing them hold hands and kiss and priss around.

Politicalcorrectnessisgay May 7, 2009 at 4:12 am

Shame Obama didnt disclose his sexual preference – for Larry Sinclair.

Aren’t there more pressing issues that need to be addressed immediately*. I’m guessing that rather than working on important things like the economy, we will be seeing a lot of these easy, feel good type things right off the bat (Executive orders closing Gitmo, raising the taxes on guns and ammo, letting gays serve openly in the military, the Fairness Doctrine, Environmental executive orders, etc), stuff to keep the kids happy (on the other hand, he still hasn’t come up with that puppy he promised us if we were good during the campaign).

* And by the way, I am not necessarily against gays in the military.

That guy has no idea the can of worms he’s about to open.

Here’s where experience comes in handy. But never fear, the Clinton cabinet will keep him from boofing this up.

I think it is the right thing to do.

I refuse to believe that the same men who are so brave in battle would be afraid to take a shower next to a gay man.

Kevin S May 16, 2009 at 12:39 pm

This really is a non-issue.

Why does anyone care what the sexual preference is of another person?

The military screwed up a long time ago by discriminating against gays lesbians but the strains on the military have actually forced this issue since most don’t want to sign up to fight in a war that was unjust from the beginning

Reality has a Liberal Bias May 19, 2009 at 8:46 pm

This issue got the Clinton Administration off to a slow start — we’ve got bigger fish to fry.

Kaz May 21, 2009 at 11:25 am

It’s time we pulled our heads out of the sand and notice what’s going on in the world.

No gays in the military – pleeeease – wake up

Joe May 23, 2009 at 2:31 am

not going to happen

kikkiday May 23, 2009 at 2:01 pm

what i’m wondering is why anyone is so big on disclosing their sexual preference to other people. that’s your business and keep it to yourself unless someone asks.

Darwin May 26, 2009 at 1:11 pm

There are and always have been gays in the military. So now they only have to fear the rednecks who aren’t sure which way they swing.

Bravephart May 27, 2009 at 4:36 am

WRONG. There is no sex in the army. No gay sex, and no straight sex. Therefore there is no being openly gay. Only fighting.

And who are you to tell the Army how to fight wars anyway? For gods sake, this is the army. Not having openly gay guys is probably for their own good.

ash May 29, 2009 at 11:03 am

There always have been and always will be gay folks in the military.

As it stands, if a gay person is outed they can be fired without benefits, without pension, even after years of good service.

That is wrong. Period. Sexuality should not be flaunted but it should also not be an issue at all.

pznbob May 29, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Whatever, as long as they don’t walk around acting gay, which is against military policy having to do with simple discipline and conduct becoming a member of the military. You can’t walk around talking like a hippie, and you shouldn’t be able to walk around acting like a flaming fruit either, gay or not. I’ve known several gay men in the military, no one cared really, but on duty you have to be all about business or you need to go do something else.

Jordan A May 30, 2009 at 4:39 pm

Having a gay person in a unit disrupts the order because the other guys in the unit would be too busy defending from a rear attack.

kenny J June 1, 2009 at 8:01 am

I agree with Obama. Sexual orientation should be a non issue when deciding to defend the country.
Think there are no gays in our military now?

Bill G June 3, 2009 at 11:53 pm

Just another case of this imbecile knowing nothing about the military

How about letting the military, with its two hundred year history of defending the country, decide the best way to do so rather than some guy who owned a bag of army men when he was a kid.

piegowdealer June 6, 2009 at 2:42 am

This issue ground the Clinton administration to an early halt and set the conservatives against him. I think he really needs to call a meeting of the joint forces and ask for their letters of resignation.

Then to tell them to resolve this gay issue once and for all and if there are any leaks or grousing he will immediately accept their resignations.

Or just leave it alone.

He’s right.

If it helps conservative republican chickenhawks like ScottWhiteLeaveMeAlone to finally enlist, it will be a good thing.

Being discriminated against because of who you want to shag is as stupid and outdated as being discriminated against for race or religion.

Loyd/Mary P June 16, 2009 at 3:44 am

Either I don’t understand or there is something wrong with your question, which I am sure there is not . I was a recruiter for the U.S.Marine Corps and the don’t ask don’t tell policy was brought out to stop recruiters from asking people about their sexual preference and then discriminating against the gay crowd thus the person trying to get in was told he did not have to disclose anything about that , but if he did then he would probably be rejected .
Now with Obama’s doing away with that policy it opens the door for recruiters to go back to their old ways of asking and then rejecting and really forces the applicant to answer the question truthfully or lie about it in which case he can be thrown out later for lying .
They have the right now to disclose it , but the recruiters do not have the right to ask it , so I guess with the change we can thank Mr. Obama .

It’s about time!!

I wonder if those who say they are keen on National Security have ever considered security implications of the don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Anyone who has ever obtained a security clearance can confirm that the main purpose of security paperwork, background checks and interviews is to determine risk factors (family members living in ‘hostile nations’, financial issues, ’secrets’, etc.) that could be used to compromise (blackmail) the person seeking the clearance.
edit
One of the last questions on security clearance paperwork asks if there is anything, not covered by the previous questions, that could lead to a security compromise. Under don’t ask, don’t tell, that’s the Catch-22 question for a gay person.
end edit
Is it logical then to conclude that don’t ask, don’t tell actually CREATES a compromising situation, thus a security risk? I think so!

Reading all these answers I’m guessing 99% of you weren’t in the military. I was in the U.S. Navy from ‘96-’99 and I think it;s a horrible mistake.
This will tear apart morale, because not only do military personnel have to accept gays, but they will be having Diversity Training to teach them that they must accept gays.
Why does a gay man or woman need to be open about it? It adds discomfort when you are in the shower if you knew that one of the guys might be checking you out because he was gay. That’s the plain truth. There’s no homophobia, just you knew that you didn’t need to be conscience about someone of the same sex thinking of you in that way.
So just KNOWING that will cause a problem. Sorry, but it will. I’m not sure if anyone who hasn’t served can testify about unit cohesian and battle readiness. If the unit has odd feelings about someone fighting alongside them then there is a problem. And that problem can result in a dropoff in morale and a dropoff in morale is a threat to national security.
I think it’s interesting that Clinton and Obama are the two who would like to repeal this. Both never served in the military. I hope his advisors will explain that this is a mistake.
The military isn’t supposed to be a feel good, PC entity. The military needs to be tough as nails, razor sharp, ready to fight as one.
I’m not saying gays are weak, because I’ve met gay people that could beat the s*** out of me. It’s the whole idea that you have to be in close quarters with someone and you don’t need to be worrying about your shipmates sexual preference.
Why can’t this decision be left up to the pentagon? I would bet my bottom dollar that if you were to poll the MILITARY, they would overwhelmingly disagree with open gays. But again, many people think it;s o.k. that the commander in cheif and leader of the worlds strongest military never spent one second in a military uniform. I had trouble saluting Bill CLinton when I was in but it’s about respecting the power and authority as messed up as that may be.
All in all, I think the MILITARY should decide the issue of Gays in the military. If you served you get it. This will tear apart morale that you are basically forced to serve with open gays. This will also see a dropoff in enlistments,
Sorry, but the military dosen’t need this.
